One of the most produced and consumed products in the world, apples feel wonderfully at home in France, where the terroir is so rich. From the cool breezes of Normandy to the sun-drenched orchards of Provence, the country’s diverse climates and soils provide ideal growing conditions. Blending centuries of expertise with cutting-edge innovation, the French ancestral know-how ensures top-notch apples. 

Sustainability is also central to French apple farming, with each and every apple hand-harvested to ensure very high standards. Some of them even hold a controlled designation of origin, like the Limousin Apple AOC or the Golden des Alpes de Haute-Durance Label Rouge. These French quality labels identify the origin of specific apple varieties, certifying their authenticity and distinctive characteristics. They guarantee the product's quality, unique traits, terroir, and the grower's expertise.

 

A balanced diet: what French apples bring to the table 

More than thirty varieties are produced and hand-picked across France. Based on their aromatic and taste profiles, the apples fall under different categories (rustic, fragrant…), offering something for everyone out there!  

Different varieties of French apple offer unique flavour profiles, from the sweetest to the tangiest. The good news? There's' alway one available at peak season, rain or shine! Stars of the show, the gourmand red Gala and yellow Golden are crowd-pleasers. Sweet and aromatic, they’re excellent eaters and bakers. Packing a bit more punch, the bright green Granny Smith is best eaten au naturel. The refreshing Fuji or Jazz both make great juicers. Lesser-known Candine, crunchy and acidic works wonders in a dressing! 

 

Apples have long been celebrated for their health benefits, and French apples are no exception. Rich in vitamins and fibre, French apples boast lots of natural sugars such as fructose for that gentle energy boost. Perfect for a balanced diet!
